John Cullen Lighting is an extraordinary high-end lighting showroom in Chelsea. Founded in 1981, Design Director Sally Storey and her team create lighting solutions for interior designers, architects, developers and private clients all over the world. They have recently opened a new office in Dubai and launched John Cullen Marine which caters to the luxury superyacht market. Their unique energy efficient range includes spotlights, uplighting, recessed downlights, floor washing, shelf and picture, garden and exterior lighting.
Striking Places was referred to the John Cullen team by Diane Thomas of Simply Purple as the benefits of showcasing the beautiful shop were obvious to her and her son is part of the design team. Having already been aware of Google Street View Trusted Photography, or Street View inside, the John Cullen team were pleased to be introduced to the award winning Striking Places team.
The virtual tour starts outside number 561-563 King’s Road, and includes a full 360 panorama that shows theirChelsea Design Quarter partner floor plaque; look down!
The lighting showroom covers 3 floors, 14 very unique rooms, including the “John Cullen House” and a ‘lighting pod’ to demonstrate different lighting effects. As the entire premises is a lighting demonstration we opted for a virtual tour that navigates throughout the store rather than using the elevator technology. Creating a continuous tour, that stops on each staircase, we can see how the stairwells are lit as well as the displays in each area on each floor. The virtual tour includes the relaxing consultation space on the first floor, all areas of the showroom on the ground floor; including the pod and the basement level where garden lighting is displayed along with stunning effects that can be achieved with lighting in the bedroom and bathroom spaces.
The pod is a particular point of interest for the showroom. To highlight the amazing effects of the pod, several individual panoramas were shot with different lighting effects. These individual panoramas can be used by the John Cullen team for demonstrating particular lighting effects to clients. Copying and embedding iframes in their website or copying a link to email the virtual tour as examples to prospective clients is easy!
As the showroom contains many mirrors and other reflective surfaces, every effort was made to ensure the user experience focussed on the showroom and not the camera or tripod.

“It was a pleasure to work with Striking Places. I enjoyed seeing how the new technology worked. Jo embraced our request to show our different lighting scenes for each area so we could give the client a more interactive walk through. We are delighted to be able to offer a virtual tour for clients who are not able to visit in person.”
