Project Overview
Phoenix Construction Herts commissioned Striking Places to provide definitive, long-term visual site documentation for a major residential development in St Albans, Hertfordshire. This was not a standard build; the project demanded a complete site transformation, starting from the structural demolition of a pre-existing property through to the flawless architectural finish of a luxury, high-end family home.
The objective was to move away from superficial social media clips and instead create a robust, high-fidelity visual record that demonstrates project management excellence, engineering precision, and build quality to future developers and commercial partners.
The Challenge
For high-end builders like Phoenix Construction, proving the hidden rigour of a build is a constant challenge. Critical phases, such as structural demolition, site clearance, complex groundwork, deep foundations, and structural steel installation, are quickly buried as the build progresses.
Phoenix Construction needed a way to:
- Provide clear evidence of their end-to-end capabilities, specifically their ability to manage complex demolition safely in a residential area.
- Showcase the pace and organisation of their subcontractors and site management.
- Build a premium portfolio asset that speaks directly to the construction community, architects, and surveyors rather than just the general public.
The Striking Places Solution
The Solution (Part 1 – Ground Level)
Striking Places deployed professional, weather-proof time-lapse camera rigs on-site, strategically positioned to capture the entire lifecycle of the plot from a fixed vantage point. Over several months, the system continuously documented the project’s evolution, capturing months of construction craftsmanship and condensing it into minutes of precise, high-impact video.
The time-lapse meticulously documented three core phases:
- Phase 1: Demolition & Clearance – The precise, controlled dismantling and removal of the original property, establishing a clean slate for the development.
- Phase 2: Groundwork & Engineering – The pouring of foundations, structural steel assembly, and the initial framing of the new property.
- Phase 3: The Premium Finish – The intricate architectural brickwork, installation of rooflines, solar panel arrays and landscaping.
The Solution (Part 2 – Aerial View)
Progress Monitoring via Integrated Drone Data
A static, long-term time-lapse camera is excellent for tracking daily on-site activity, but it only offers a single perspective. To provide a complete, multi-angle view of the construction project, the site documentation is supplemented with professional drone data collected every one to two months.
Throughout the lifecycle of the build, these regular aerial surveys capture the evolving footprint of the site from above. This data is then used to create interim progress videos throughout the project. Each update is cleanly topped and tailed with contextual drone footage, framing the latest ground-level time-lapse sequences.
For main contractors and remote stakeholders, these regular site updates deliver significant operational value:
- Site Logistics Auditing: Aerial footage reveals the macro-level organisation of the site, tracking material storage, access routes, and boundary safety over time.
- Frictionless Progress Reporting: Project managers can share these polished, interim videos directly with clients, banks, and investors to verify milestones without requiring disruptive, in-person site walkthroughs.
- Marketing Momentum: Instead of waiting years for a project to finish to generate marketing content, developers receive a steady stream of professional assets to showcase their active pipeline.
The Outcome & Value
The resulting documentation provides Phoenix Construction with an invaluable asset that serves as undeniable proof of capability.
- Definitive Site Documentation: The full-length video delivers an authentic, unembellished record of the project’s timeline and compliance, showcasing a tidy, efficient, and professionally managed site.
- B2B Marketing Power: By focusing on the absolute reality of the build, including the heavy demolition phase, the time-lapse positions Phoenix Construction as a premier turnkey contractor capable of handling high-risk, high-reward residential projects in Hertfordshire.
- Uncompromised Quality: Captured with professional-grade optics, the final footage offers the construction community a transparent, detailed window into modern premium building standards.
“We don’t just capture the finished aesthetics; we document the grit, engineering, and professionalism required to get there. This time-lapse is a testament to what happens when quality construction meets professional site documentation.” Striking Places Photography
As this project took over a year, there is a lot of content.
